“Thirty minutes,” his taxi driver said when they arrived at the airport, looking at his watch, surprised at how quick the trip had been, even on a Sabbath. “I wasn’t even trying to drive fast.”

“Huh?” Brent said.

He was once again lost in thought. He was about to get on a plane. He was about to retire from the Army, go home to America, become a civilian, and see up close what the country he had spent twenty-eight years defending was turning into.

“Thirty minutes,” the driver repeated.

“Yeah?” Brent said, and soon he was on his way home to a country with a president who was tweeting about “Sleepy Joe” and “Crooked Hillary” and “the Lamestream Media” and “DEMOCRAT WITCH HUNT!” That was what Trump was thinking, and Brent was thinking: Here I come.
